Chapter 3. Creating an Interior Scene with Lumion
In this chapter, we will introduce you to some efficient techniques for creating an interior scene with Lumion. Primarily, Lumion was developed to create exterior renders and even with more recent versions, you will see that Lumion has more content for exterior scenes. However, the interior scenes are easier to create and with some attention to detail, it is possible to produce very believable 3D renders. Some of the most important aspects of working with interior scenes are attention to detail and lights. In particular, regarding lights, it pays to learn how we can use them to sculpt the environment. Volumetric lighting and global illumination are just two features that we can use to drastically improve the final output, but we will cover those in Chapter 7, Producing a Still Image with Lumion.
The topics we will explore in this chapter are as follows:
- Adding details to the 3D model
- Lumion 3D model libraries
- Balancing the use of 3D models
- Using the Context and Edit Properties menus
- Editing the 3D model properties
- Materials
- Working with lights
- Improving interior lighting with the fill light
- Difference between shadows
- Editing light's properties
However, before we begin, keep in mind that your goal should not to be to copy what we do here, but instead your goal should be to apply the techniques that you will learn here in your own projects.
