Confucius's father named him Qiu,literally meaning hills,for his head was shaped like hills surrounding a piece of concave land.

孔父為孔子取名為丘,是因為他頭頂中間凹陷,四邊卻凸起如山丘。

When meeting a virtuous man,one should learn to be like him;when meeting a non-virtuous man,one should examine oneself.

見賢思齊焉,見不賢而內自省也。

While your parents are alive,you should not travel afar.If it is a must to travel,your whereabouts should be known.

父母在,不遠遊。遊必有方。

Confucius was famous for being tall (around 190cm) and nicknamed "Long Man" in Records of the Grand Historian.

孔子是著名的高個子,更在《史記》中被稱為“長人”呢:“孔子長九尺有六寸,人皆謂之‘長人’而異之。”

The 300 poems in the Book of Poetry can be summed up in one phrase:thoughts not diverted from the Way.

詩三百,一言以蔽之,曰“思無邪”。

Confucius was quite a traveller:he spent 14 years travelling around to find a feudal state,such as Wei,Cai and Chen,to accept his ideas.

孔子可算是一位旅行家,曾周遊列國14年,到訪衛、蔡、陳等國希望政見獲接納。

One should not worry about not being understood,but not understanding others.

不患人之不己知,患不知人也。

Confucius is multi-talented and good at the Six Arts:archery,charioting,music,ritual,mathematics,calligraphy.
