2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is also a period of 70 years in which the industrious and plain people of Shaanxi forged ahead, worked hard and wrote a new chapter in Shaanxi's development history.

Economic Development

Over the past 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, under the strong leadership of the CPC central committee, Shaanxi people have forged ahead and worked hard to achieve the great changes from extreme poverty to prosperity, from the hinterland to the highland of reform and opening up, from lack of daily life necessities to build a well-off society in an all-round way, from loess to lush green land.

Over the past 70 years, Shaanxi has sped up industrial optimization and upgrading, and its economic aggregate has been greatly lifted. Industrial structure has transformed from agriculture-oriented at the early days of founding of PRC into three industries' collaborative propulsion. Dominant industries like energy and chemical industry, the equipment manufacturing industry have sped up to high-end; aerospace, equipment manufacturing, electronic information industry cluster has grown; new energy vehicles, industrial robots and other strategic emerging industries have been maintaining double-digit growth.

In 2019, the province's GDP reached 2579.317 billion yuan, an increase of 6% over the previous year. The added value of industries above provincial scale increased by 5.2% year on year. The high-tech industry grew by 11.1 percent and the equipment manufacturing industry by 8.9 percent.

In 2019, the FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) of Shaanxi reached $7.729 billion, up 12.9 percent year on year. At present, 121 foreign-funded enterprises have been invested and set up in Shaanxi by 78 Fortune 500 companies including Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Euro-Asia economic cooperation industrial park is home to several projects of Fortune 500 companies such as Germany's Bosch, BMW, France's Alstom and Danone. The China-Russia Silk Road Innovation Park has attracted numerous Russian enterprises to enter the park, carrying out a series of cooperation projects in science, education, culture and economy. Investment of Shaanxi in countries and regions along the Belt and Road has grown by 49.1%, which is an enthusiastic response to the splendid initiative of the Belt and Road. At present, many state-owned and private enterprises in our province, such as Yanchang Petroleum Group, Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group, Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group, Shaanxi Automobile Group, Shaanxi Fast Auto Drive Co. Ltd. (Fast), ShaanGu (Shaanxi Blower Group), Xi'an Aiju Grain and Oil Industrial Group, Shaanxi EKIA Holding Group, etc., have invested overseas.
